My very first photo challenge

I have finally decided to participate in the weekly Monochrome Madness Challenge (MMC) hosted by Leanne Cole over at her blog, Leanne Cole PHOTOGRAPHY. Thanks so much Leanne for hosting this each week for 11 weeks now! This is my very first photo challenge! How exciting!

I have been thinking for a while if I should participate. I felt intimidated and does not think my photos are good enough for any challenges or competitions. Then I thought life is too short to be pondering all the time and I have this voice in my head ‘JUST DO IT’. Well, if the outcomes are not good, then I guess learn more, improve and try again! At least, I will not keep missing out on opportunities.

This photo was taken while in Cockatoo Island, New South Wales, for the 19th Biennale of Sydney festival. Cockatoo island, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, is only a short ferry ride from Sydney’s CBD. It was an interesting art festival with many types of exhibitions.

Apart from that, there are many rustic sights/buildings for photography and of course the highlight for me! I was particularly drawn to this little resting area with a very olden rustic roof covering it. What made me drawn to it even more is the crane behind it. I thought it would look perfect in a photo, especially in a monochrome setting, giving it a rustic olden feel. I hope I have conveyed these feelings in the photo…This was shot using Nikon D800 with Nikkor 28mm f1.8G lens and edited in Adobe Lightroom 5 using a B&W antique toned filter.

The weekly MMC is usually posted on Wednesday morning (Australian time, GMT +11 hours) in Leanne Cole’s Blog so head over to her blog to check out the other entries! They are all very impressive and interesting to explore! 🙂 While you are in Leanne’s blog, check out her other works too, it is equally impressive.
