Australia – NT – Kata Tjuta

I was in Northern Territory (NT) three weeks ago for a short holiday. I was there for four days visiting the landmark of Australia – Uluru, as well as Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon.

Kata Tjuta, also known as The Olgas, are a group of large domed rock formations located about 365 km southwest of Alice Springs, in the southern part of the Northern Territory, Central Australia. Uluru and Kata Tjuta form the two major landmarks within the Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park.

Kata Tjuta was made up of 36 domes that cover an area of 21.68 sq km. They are composed of conglomerate, a sedimentary rock consisting of cobbles and boulders of varying rock types including granite and basalt, cemented by a matrix of sandstone.

The highest point, Mount Olga, is 1,066 m above sea level or approximately 546 m above the surrounding plain. It is 198 m higher than Uluru.

It was an amazing experience being there, almost indescribable. My friend and I did the Valley of the Winds Walk in Kata Tjuta with AAT Kings Tour. It was fairly warm that day, probably around 28 degrees C. There were a LOT of flies though probably due to the warm weather, which were rather annoying! Nonetheless, we did enjoy the walk in Kata Tjuta.
